A look at the New Opera 10.50

OPERA
  • Sharebar

A few days ago Opera released Opera 10.50 desktop browser for Windows. One of the most notable new features is a new JavaScript engine, Carakan, which runs web applications faster and more smoothly and easily speeds up even the most demanding Web sites.
Another new feature is private browsing, which lets you browse without leaving any trace of the Web sites you have visited or other actions performed.
Below is a breakdown of the some of the features that you can expect find on the latest version of Opera.
Faster Browsing
On top of the new JavaScript engine Carakan, the new Opera has a feature called Opera Turbo which uses compression technology that significantly increases browsing speeds over slow or limited-internet bandwidth connections. This works well for my part of the world where internet speeds constantly fluctuate.

Sharing Made Easy
Through Opera Unite you can share content directly with friends without having to upload anything to a Web site. You can stream music, show photo galleries, share files and folders or even host your own Web pages directly from your browser.

Email Client on your Browser
Opera Mail is the in-built e-mail client on Opera. It allows you to organize, index and sorts your messages as any other email client. You can use Opera Mail with popular email providers like Gmail and Yahoo mail or with any other service that supports IMAP or POP.
Synchronize your data
Opera Link lets you synchronize data of your choice online or among different computers and devices. You can synchronize your Speed Dial, bookmarks, custom searches, history and notes between your work and home computers or take your bookmarks with you on your phone.
Resizable tab bar
One of coolest feature though not new is the innovative resizable tab bar (Introduced in Opera 10). The resizable bar allows you to drag the handle underneath the tabs to reveal thumbnails of your open Web pages.

BitTorrent Support
If you use social file distribution protocol, Bit Torrent then here is some good news. Opera 10.50 has built-in support BitTorrent, which makes it easy to download torrent files without the need for a separate application.
HTML5 and CSS3 Support
Opera 10.50 includes improved standards support for HTML5 and CSS3, giving Web designers like me, tools to make eye-catching Web applications that work on completely open technologies.

As you probably noticed, Opera is slowly moving away from just being a browser to an application that will be more of a central place for your internet activity. They have also been in the forefront of innovative products including the speed dial and now visual tabs. My verdict, I give it a rating of 4.5 out of five. What rating will you give it?
